Following last night’s WrestleMania program, TNA Wrestling’s Kurt Angle tweeted some commentary regarding the WWE Superstars using “his moves” throughout the show. Here is the text of his tweets:
To WWE wrestlers, Don’t use my Finish. Get more Creative. Hmmmm- Orton. Did I say that? I heard Orton had an Awesome match though. Ur welcome.
I guess Swagger will use my Ankle Lock as well. Very creative. I’m the Best in the World. You Guys will never be Kurt Angle. Can I get an AMEN.
Kurt Angle will never die. TNA. WWE. I’m a leader. Not follower. Why would WWE use my finishes? Is it because I won’t go back? R Orton- Angle Slam. M Cole- Ankle Lock? They have some nerve.
Jerry Lawlor did it too. But He is a Legend. WWE really stuck it to Me. No Love lost. I’m glad that I helped Your biggest Event of the Year.
In response to Angle’s tweets about WWE’s entertainers using his moves, Randy Orton tweeted the following comments:
Everything’s been done before as far as ‘moves’ go in the sports entertainment. I want to thank SCSA for the ‘Thesz Press.’ And I know for a fact that SCSA got the ‘Thesz Press’ from Dutch Mantell.
Point being, instead of taking offense to someone using your move, consider it a sign of respect. Btw does anyone know what Ken Shamrocks finish was? I believe Jack Swagger used ankle lock outta respect for Ken?
If there is any more news on this back and forth between Angle and Orton, we’ll report it here first.
Hmmm… good points on both sides, I suppose.
I have heard that they’re trying to make Jack Swaggerless a new Kurt Angle though(which can’t be done), so there’s that idea in my head about that.
Seeing other wrestlers use moves that you made famous, however, could be an homage rather than a lack of creativity. But when someone active on TV is using a finisher and someone else is using the move as just another move in his move set, that hurts. I was kinda upset that Orton’s Angle Slam didn’t finish CM Punk.
The point is, Kurt Angle made his moves famous. He made the Angle Slam famous, and he made the Ankle Lock famous. Ken wasn’t ever as big as Angle, and still isn’t. Kurt pointed out something similar to this when he said:
“Jerry Lawler did it too. But He is a Legend.”
In other words, Legends can do it, but up and comers (yes, including Randy) shouldn’t, as they should use something unique that maybe a legend could use. Also, yes Randy, there are still original moves out there. I don’t know about any of you guys, but when was the last time you saw Crimsons “Red Alert” being used, by someone else? I don’t remember. It was the first time I saw that move. I marked the F out.
+1 for original moves still existing. While I’m at it, why doesn’t Randy just pick his opponent up in the Angle Slam way, but instead of dropping them on their back like Angle does, why not dive forward so they fall flat on their face? I just invented a new wrestling move =)
Dude first of all, Kurt angle did not make the Angle lock famous. do your research. it was Koji Kanemoto who innovated and truly trademarked the Angle lock. So Ken and Angle owe him that. As for the angle slam i can understand him getting upset. but lets not forget he did say he was “hacked” (this article has not been updated yet so research it yourself) But as CMPunk said in his twitter.
“”my twitter account was hacked”, is the new: “I’m a sloppy drunk douche”.
“Dude first of all, Kurt angle did not make the Angle lock famous. do your research. it was Koji Kanemoto who innovated and truly trademarked the Angle lock.”
WWE mark, do you even comprehend what you write? You tell someone that Angle did not make the Angle lock famous and they should research the guy that did. If the guy you mentioned made it famous there would not be a need to research it, he would be famous for it. The fact that you refer to the move as the Angle lock shows that it was indeed Kurt that made it famous. Do a little research yourself and find out what “famous” means. Radiitz was right on the money.
And apparently Joey Styles has joined the fray, tweeting this little blip during tonight’s episode of RAW: “I’m watching Jack Swagger apply the Ankle Lock to The King and wondering if anyone’s twitter account will be hacked”
It seems as much as the WWE denies it to their dirt sheet sources, TNA is very much a concern.
“It seems as much as the WWE denies it to their dirt sheet sources, TNA is very much a concern.”
oh yeah, they’re really scare of TNA
I’m glad you agree Bob.
