As we exclusively reported two weeks ago, WWE had a plan in place for Edge to defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Big Show at WrestleMania. The match will be coming to fruition as SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero named Big Show the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship following Edge’s loss to John Cena at the conclusion of tonight’s show.
Regarding plans for Cena at WrestleMania, it all hinges on the company’s negotiations with Hulk Hogan for the event. We broke the news of there being some back and forth between the two parties, which Hogan himself later confirmed on the Bubba the Love Sponge radio show. However, Hogan said they were unable to agree on a specific scenario for him at the event, but McMahon was open to doing something with him in the future.
Despite Hogan’s comments, according to a company source, negotiations are still ongoing for the WWE Hall of Famer to wrestle Cena at WrestleMania. Officials hope the match takes place as it would have the greatest effect on the buyrate for the pay-per-view spectacular.
Should negotiations fall through, WWE has a back-up plan. Cena will simply be sandwiched into the World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania with it being turned into a three-way bout.
