Whoa, what a way to end 2005 with one really bad Smackdown. I can give you maybe a few things that I liked but the crap totally outweighed the good and brought the show down. And I could do a full column on the show but I won’t, I’m not going to waste anymore time on Smackdown. I wasted enough watching last night’s show.
I will say that Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton was a good match. Honestly I really expected a lot more from them but it was good. While the Dicks do nothing for me, Psicosis and Super Crazy helped make this match fun to watch and very enjoyable. I did like Cole and Tazz’s Dick innuendos. I thought it was hysterical when both Chad and James came from out of nowhere to take Psicosis out and Tazz said Dick’s are popping up all over, yeah that’s my sense of humor. The main event with Batista and Rey Mysterio vs. MNM was another good one, not great but good. I even liked The Boogeyman coming out to terrorize JBL; I think I can get into a Boogeyman/JBL feud. And finally I liked the opening with Chris Benoit, Booker T, Sharmell and Theodore Long pondering what to do with the Best of Seven series since Booker was injured. That segment put so much importance on the U.S. title that I found myself interested in what Long’s decision would be. But with none of the above could save the show.
The whole sexual harassment suit and speech by Melina was not only nauseating but way too long. Every two seconds she would talk, stop and turn to her “attorney” then go back to talk. I wanted to strangle her, they took a spicy Diva that week after week causes nothing but havoc and gave us way too much of the poor victim, the scared victim. Oh my God I couldn’t take the close-ups of her at all. And I think what topped it for me was her fear of Batista yet she came out for the main event. Why the hell wouldn’t she stay in the back? AND, why is she suing him instead of pressing charges? The whole thing just sickened me. Another thing that bothered me, not as strongly but it bugged me was the Matt Hardy/JBL match. Matt lost at Armageddon, so I guess I figured he would get a win, but instead of Hardy getting a win he doesn’t even get any offense on JBL, it’s all Bradshaw. I just question why can’t Matt get a break at least once in a while? And while I’m a big fan of Booker T, his non stop yapping during the Orton/Benoit match was unbearable. Half the time I didn’t even know what the hell he was saying. Lashley vs. Sylvan, BAD, just bad. And finally, DEAR GOD, he’s back. Mark Henry takes out the WWE champion and I ask WHY? I see guys like Hardy, Benjamin, being held back, or guys like Charlie Haas, Billy Kidman and others released and every time Henry is out from injuries he’s always brought back. And now he’s in there with the top guy it’s just all too much for me to take. So let me end Smackdown here and touch on a few rumors that are out there.
Are you ready? So far the rumored Wrestlemania 22 card is: Triple H vs. Cena, Batista vs. Randy Orton, HBK vs. Vince McMahon and Kurt Angle vs. Mick Foley. Now if this Foley/Angle match is true I guess it makes sense since Kurt has bashed the troops lately. Maybe that’s why they got this going to bring in Foley once Kurt is done with Cena. I know out of the ring, Mick and Kurt could make this good, it’s in the ring I’m not sure of, since Mick is not the Mick of years ago, but this might all be worth seeing. And I have a feeling that next week somehow Vince will screw HBK in that Elimination Chamber match which will be the start of their feud. I didn’t expect this to go to Wrestlemania, I figured their match would happen at the Royal Rumble, and maybe it will with the final one happening at Wrestlemania.
And Hunter vs. John Cena? Yeah that I kind of expected. Now there have been other rumors where Hunter will lose to Cena which means that Cena will have had the title for a year. Now I read something very interesting yesterday. Supposedly and again this is a rumor that Cena is losing to Kurt Angle at New Years Revolution, and winning the title back at the Royal Rumble. Now while I think giving Kurt the title for three weeks is stupid, if Cena does beat Hunter it makes sense. Because his new title reign will have started at the Rumble. You have no idea how wrong I hope this title rumor is. Now continuing with the title, Randy Orton is supposedly beating Batista at Wrestlemania. I guess since Batista doesn’t rap, he’s not bringing extra money and publicity in for Vince, so I guess it’s okay to take the belt off of him. Oh the next few months should be filled with some good rumors leading up to Wrestlemania. Okay the last rumor is that Juventud seems to be one pain in the ass backstage. In fact he’s so bad that Psicosis and Supercrazy have asked to be separated from him. Well I’m sure we all noticed he didn’t show up with the Mexicools last night, and when Funaki interviewed Kid Kash I would have thought Juvi would have shown up and demanded a rematch but again he wasn’t on. Does this mean Juvi is in the dog house? Or maybe on his way out? Honestly with his reputation I am surprised that Vince even signed him. I’m sure the sage of Juvi and WWE will continue for awhile.
