Show Details: JBL was in the ring and cut his normal redundant promo,
targeting Batista. JBL’s music hit and the limo came out. Blue Meanie,
Steven Richards and Nova came out of the limo as bWo. Richards did the
introductions. There was very little crowd reaction to this, which is no
surprise. Richards said JBL embarrassed himself at ECW One Night Stand. JBL
turned it on from here, obviously letting his emotions seep through. Meanie
challenged JBL and Bradshaw didn’t hesitate to accept. Meanie spray painted
“bWo” on JBL’s limo.
Chris Benoit vs. Booker T – United States Championship
Cole mentioned the great series of matches these two had in WCW. Benoit
chopped Book and gave him a snap suplex. Booker hung Benoit over the top
rope and gained control. He hit Benoit with a kick to the head but Benoit
kicked out. After a failed Scissors Kick attempt by Booker, Benoit came back
with three Germans. Benoit went to the top for the diving headbutt, but
Booker went up and nailed a superplex. Benoit kicked out and went for the
Crossface but Booker reversed into an arm bar. Benoit played it like he was
injured. Benoit applied the Crossface soon after and Booker tapped. Chris
Benoit is the number one contender for Orlando Jordan’s US title. What a
waste of Benoit. He needs to completely squash Jordan.
Rey walked into Eddie’s locker room backstage. Eddie wanted Rey to be his
tag partner tonight against MNM because for some reason, Eddie was given a
tag title shot. Guerrero wanted Rey because Mysterio’s beaten him 5 times in
a row already. Rey didn’t want to do it, but Eddie threatened to reveal
their little secret. Eddie was hilarious here, but this angle is a
nightmare, especially for these two. Elsewhere, Muhammed Hassan was
complaining in Teddy Long’s office. Hassan said he was never eliminated last
week, so he should be number one contender. Long put Hassan in a number one
contender’s match for Great American Bash against the Undertaker, even
though neither of those guys deserves it. Long put Daivari in a match
against Taker tonight.
JBL vs. Blue Meanie w/Steven Richards & Nova – No Disqualification
Bradshaw gave Meanie a beat down in and out of the ring. JBL did Meanie’s
little dance which was funny. Meanie tried to fight back but to no avail.
Richards gave JBL a chair shot, and Meanie followed with a moonsault off the
top rope, but JBL kicked out. Crowd was into the near fall. OJ came out to
distract the bWo and JBL nailed Meanie with the Clothesline. Batista entered
out of no where and gave JBL a spine buster and placed Meanie on top for the
pinfall victory.
MNM vs. Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio – WWE Tag-Team Titles
Eddie was all over Mercury to start, and demanded that Rey make a tag. Rey
hit a roll-through dropkick for a two count. Eddie tagged back in and took
over again, hitting the triple verticals and a Frog Splash. He had the match
won but pulled Mercury up before the three count. He tagged in Rey who went
for the 619 but Guerrero knocked him down. MNM gained control and Eddie
grabbed a chair to watch from ring side. Rey fought back hitting a swinging
DDT to Mercury and a tilt-a-whirl hurricanrana into the second rope. Rey hit
the 619 and the spring board leg drop. He had the win but Eddie broke up the
cover. MNM hit the Snapshot as Eddie watched to retain the titles. Eddie
taunted Rey after the match.
Christian said he main-evented RAW and Smackdown the same week, which he
said had never been done before. Christian said he was born to be a main
eventer and would win tonight because he’s “Captain Charisma, bitch”. The
Great American Bash promo focuses a diva who’s rarely on television and two
guys on RAW. I wonder if they have any long-term plans at all. Speaking of
which…
Matt Morgan vs. William Regal
Before Regal could even get half way down the aisle, the Mexicools made
their way out and gave a beat down to the heel Matt Morgan. Even before
this, they were being cheered, which should be no surprise. Same reason it
shouldn’t be a surprise that Eddie Guerrero was clearly more over as a face
than he is as a heel. Speaking of Matt Morgan; On May 12, I set the
over/under on Morgan’s demise at 10.5 months. If you had the under, you win.
Daivari w/Muhammed Hassan vs. Undertaker
Taker won with a choke slam and Tombstone. Hassan was smiling the whole time
as five masked men, trying to resemble terrorists, attacked the Undertaker
after the match. They choked him with some wire and Hassan applied the camel
clutch.
Christian vs. Batista – Non-Title
Batista received a great reaction from the crowd. However, when the match
got under way, the crowd was dead. Batista toyed with Christian and tossed
him over the top to the outside and they went to commercial. Batista was
still in control after the break until Christian gave him a drop toe hold
onto the steel steps. As Batista slowly crawled through the ropes to get in
the ring, Christian gave him a DDT. Christian followed with a neck breaker
for two. Christian then hit a top drop dropkick but Batista kicked out
again. Christian had a headlock but Batista fought out and hit an electric
chair drop. Batista hit a powerslam, spine buster and Batista Bomb for the
win. The burial of Christian continues. The funny thing is, they probably
don’t even realize it. After the match, OJ and JBL attacked Batista. Batista
went for the Bomb on JBL, but OJ hit him from behind. JBL pushed OJ into
Batista and ran off. OJ was the victim of a spine buster and Batista Bomb.
Batista and JBL stared down to end the show.
