14th April 2008 - Smackdown House show results (Cardiff, CIA)
Kane def. Shelton Benjamin to retain his ECW title. Kane got a huge pop as usual.
Kofi Kingston def. Kenny Dykstra. Dykstra did an admirable job of working a stale crowd for this match.
John Morrisson & The Miz def. Jimmy Wang Yang and S. Moore. Morrisson and The Miz got some great heat, was obvious that a large portion of the crowd were secretly behind them. Miz picked up the pin with the help of the ropes. Miz and Morrisson are legends.
Tommy Dreamer def. Mike Knox. Good to see Dreamer who got a fairly decent pop, though was unappreciated by the youngsters a little. Quite a boring match.
Finlay & Jamie Noble def. Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder. Massive pop for Hornswoggle and the team, involved a prolonged water fight, tennis balls to the groin (from Hornswoggle to the ‘Edge heads’) and a ‘Tadpole’ splash. Amusing match.
Matt Hardy def. MVP (DQ). Huge pop for Hardy after some impressive heat build-up from MVP. MVP was highly amusing. MVP used a chair which lead to his DQ.
CM Punk def. Chavo. Great all-round match. Chavo made an impressive return to form, but ultimatly it was Punk’s night winning with a GTS.
Main event: Undertaker, Big show and Batista def. Edge, Mark Henry and Great Khali. Major Mark out moment for me when Edge came out, he got a mixed reaction at first: I think he is the heel that everyone loves to hate or hates to love. He did a great job of leading his team. Some big pops for the face team. ‘Taker pinned Edge after a tombstone. After the match Batista appeared to be in a bit of pain, ‘Taker seemed to signal that he had hurt his neck. Didn’t look too serious, but we’ll see. I was disappointed Edge didnt get more over, but I got the impression from the pops that Taker’s win was a popular one.
